Travel directions to Provo

By air: Commercial flights come into Salt Lake City, a major hub for Delta and service by many other airlines. The airport is west of Salt Lake off I-80, about 45 miles from Provo.

All the major car rental companies are there. You can walk to the car rental offices, accorss the main street in front of the terminal.

A shuttle service is quite inexpensive; vans operated by Express Shuttle Service charge $24.00 for the first person and $12.00 for each additional person, one way (per van). They will pick you up just outside the baggage claim area and take you to Deseret Towers, the dormitory we are using on campus. There are three dorm areas on campus, so you can’t just say, “the dorms” – say Deseret Towers. (Notice the word is “deseret” not “desert.”

Express Shuttle Service’s phone number is 800-397-0773, Ask for the BYU/AATK rate.

If you rent a car, or drive your own, you need to get on I-15. Salt Lake City is at the intersection of I-80 and I-15. If you are leaving the airport you’ll get on I-80, go east toward Salt Lake and then go south on I-15 (or you can take I-215, the belt route, south – it joins I-15 about ten miles south). Take I-15 to Provo, actually, to Orem, the third exit for Orem, called the University Parkway exit.

Directions A: Take the University Parkway (exit 272) , east, about three miles, you’ll be on the edge of the campus. You’ll see the football stadium on the left side of the road as you proceed onto the campus, on University Parkway. Past the football stadium on the left, you’ll see the baseball, softball complex on the right, and then across a parking lot on the right you’ll see a large basketball arena. At the top of the hill ahead, you’ll see the Harmon building on the right, a building with a reflective glass on the side (north face) and along its front (east face). Turn right at the light (900 East); there will be a large grass field on the right (the Harmon building with its glassy front will be across the grass field). The next complex on your right, a set of seven or eight buildings, each seven/eight stories tall, is your destination – Deseret Towers.

Driving from northern California? Coming in on I-80 from the west. Directions are the same as coming in from the airport, above.

Coming in on I-80 from the east? As you enter the Salt Lake valley (you’ll come into the valley through Parley’s Canyon as the first pioneers did in 1847), about five miles from the mouth of the canyon, you’ll come to the intersection with I-15. Take I-15 southbound, to Orem, third exit, University Parkway – follow directions A above.

Coming in on I-15 from the South? From SoCal? Arizona? Take the first Provo exit, University Avenue (exit 266 -- not the same as University Parkway for those coming from the north). You’ll pass the commercial developments on the south side of town, cross the railroad tracks via a large overpass, that will put you in the heart of the old downtown. Proceed another mile north. When a road forks off to the right at an angle (Provo High School on your left, Zions Bank on the right), take the right fork, continue north past the main entrance to the campus on your right (Wendy’s on your left), past the dorms on your right (Helaman Halls), past the track and field complex on your right, and at the next light turn right. As you turn right, the football stadium will now be on your left, proceed east and you’ll see the baseball, softball complex on the right, and then beyond a parking lot on the right you’ll see basketball arena. At the top of the hill ahead, you’ll see the Harmon building on the right, a building with a reflective glass on the side (north face) and along its front (east face). Turn right at the light (900 East); there will be a large grass field on the right (the Harmon building will be across the grass field). The next complex on your right, a set of seven/eight story tall dorms, is your destination – Deseret Towers.
